Step 1:
Is internet-based coaching right for you?
Coaching or “life coaching” is a process that is similar to traditional psychotherapy, but differs in some key areas. First, coaching is primarily deals with issues of the present and is often found to be more practical and immediately helpful than traditional psychotherapeutic interventions. Coaches, such as myself, are often highly trained and experienced mental health professionals who choose to specialize in helping individuals who are seeking help with the problems in areas of modern life, such as relationships, careers, and finding purpose and meaning. Coaching, while based on the very best of evidence-based models, provides support and guidance through the sometimes stressful and complex circumstances of your life. Individuals who will find coaching most helpful (as opposed to traditional psychotherapy) are often those are less likely to fall into one of the traditional psychiatric diagnostic categories. Coaching consists of weekly, hour-long, one-on-one sessions with myself which are conducted using video conferencing technology that only requires a computer or smartphone and an internet connection.
The areas of life where coaching can be extremely helpful include addiction recovery, relationships (including desire for a relationship), career, and finding sustainable joy and purpose in life. For many gay men, coaching can be extremely helpful in identifying areas in life where “gay shame” has prevented you from living your best life and helping you to take steps to eliminate those shame-based obstacles.
